Everbody seems to produce a year end list or best of list. I came across this list of lists at Fimoculus. It has list for books, movies, games, gadgets, people, etc. Fimoculous.com defines itself as a blog that devours the filth expunged on the mediascape.

Firefox and Thunderbird Extension: MinimizeToTray
"MinimizeToTray provides quick access to many of Firefox and Thunderbird's most used features. For Firefox, easily view your Downloads or open a new browser window. For Thunderbird, compose new messages and view your Address Book while keeping it minimized all day to check for new mail."
"MinimizeToTray always allows you to send Firefox or Thunderbird to the system tray by right-mouse clicking on the minimize button, or by choosing "Tools => Minimize To Tray" from the menu, or by pressing Ctrl+Shift+M from the keyboard. Also, you can force the application to always minimize to the tray instead of the taskbar by selecting the checkbox inside the extension's options."
This is a great extension because Firefox does not open as quickly as I would like. With this extension access to the browser is instant through the icon that is placed by the clock.
More info at: mozdev.org - minimizetotray: index:

Strong Meteor Shower Peaks Monday Night
If you were disappointed with the meager showing put on by this year’s Leonid meteor shower, don’t fret. What could be the best meteor display of the year is scheduled to reach its peak on Monday night, Dec. 13.
Skywatchers with dark skies away from city lights could see one or two meteors every minute during the Geminid meteor shower. The greatest activity is expected to be visible from North America, Europe and Africa.
The Geminids get their name from the constellation of Gemini, the Twins. On the night of this shower’s maximum, the meteors will appear to emanate from a spot in the sky near the bright star Castor in Gemini.

Rare Event: Jupiter to Hide Behind the Moon
"A rare and spectacular event will occur in the early morning hours of Tuesday, Dec. 7 when the brilliant planet Jupiter and three of its largest satellites pass behind Earth's Moon.
Astronomers refer to this phenomenon as an "occultation," taken from the Latin occultare, which means “to conceal.” This eye-catching sight will be visible in complete darkness across all of eastern and much of central North America.
The waning Moon will be 26 percent illuminated, a crescent just 4-½ days before new.
It's been decades since Jupiter has played hide-and-seek for U.S. skywatchers under favorable dark-sky circumstances. Across the western and central states, Jupiter was occulted at dawn on Oct. 19, 1968 in a widely watched event. For viewers farther East the wait has been considerably longer.
The last time New Yorkers were treated to such a favorably placed dark-sky Jupiter occultation was on Sept. 3, 1889. After 2004, there will not be another similarly favorable Jupiter occultation for most North Americans until Oct. 6, 2026. "

Tickets for Cooperstown Exhibition Go On Sale Beginning February 19
(COOPERSTOWN, NY): The 2004 World Champion Boston Red Sox and the Detroit Tigers, hosts of the 2005 All-Star Game, will meet in the 59th annual Hall of Fame Game in Cooperstown, New York, on Monday, May 23, 2005, at historic Doubleday Field. The only in-season exhibition game held during the Major League Baseball championship season, the Hall of Fame Game has been scheduled annually since 1940, matching teams from across the majors at the 10,000-seat stadium in this pastoral village.
The 2005 Game marks the third consecutive year, and the third time ever, that the Game has been held independently of Hall of Fame Weekend, which is scheduled for July 29-August 1, 2005. In 2003, the Game was moved to June, where a full weekend of programming now accompanies the Game. Already scheduled for 2005, the Third Annual Cooperstown Game Day Parade will feature both teams participating in a Main Street event on Game Day, with other activities for Hall of Fame Game Weekend to be announced soon.
'We are honored to host two franchises with long and storied histories in Cooperstown,' said Dale Petroskey, president of the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum. 'We thank Major League Baseball for continuing this historic tradition and are elated that the World Champions will be playing at Doubleday Field just months after winning their first World Series in 86 years.'
Game Tickets: Tickets are limited to six per customer, and will be available for purchase beginning February 19. Prices are $11.00 for first and third base reserved seats, while outfield reserved seats are $10.00. Tickets can be purchased at the Hall of Fame, over the Internet and by telephone."

The Leonid Meteor Shower 2004: Modest Peak Expected Nov. 16-19
"Next week brings us the return of the famous Leonid Meteor Shower, a meteor display that over the past several years has brought great anticipation and excitement to sky watchers around the world.
Solely from the standpoint of viewing circumstances, this will be a favorable year to look for these meteors, since the Moon will be only a thin crescent and will have set in the west long before the constellation Leo (from where the meteors get their name) begins to rise. This is in stark contrast to 2002 when a nearly full Moon lit up the sky like a spotlight and wiped out all but the brightest meteors.
Last year, conditions were much better; the Moon had slimmed to a narrow crescent in the predawn morning sky and offered little hindrance. But this year, the Moon will be out of the sky completely, offering perfect viewing conditions." Click the link below for more information

Presidential Election 2004
Have you made your choice for President yet? Or are you still undecided?
Here are the the sites for the major candidates: Bush and Kerry.
Ralph Nader's site can be found here.
If you want to learn about other political parties go to the Directory Of U.S. Political Parties.
There are plenty of sites that predict the election and track the polls. I like the Electoral Vote Predictor 2004 and Election Projection 2004 Edition.
Other sites that are tracking the election: President Elect, Red Blue Chart, LAtimes.com electoral vote tracker, and PBS's Online News Hour.
You can learn all about the Electoral College on their official site.

RSS Feeds and Feed Readers
I have been learning about and using RSS feeds for a few weeks now. RSS feeds are a way to quickly check web sites for updates. You use a RSS feed reader to check for the updates. There are web-based feed readers like Bloglines, Syndic8, and NewsIsFree and stand-alone programs such as SharpReader ,FeedReader and Awasu .
Another option is to use the Firefox browser which has LiveBookmarks and auto-detects RSS feeds. There is also an extension for Firefox called Sage that can be used to check feeds. I prefer to use Sage for my RSS feeds. Finally, another option is to use My Yahoo! which now supports the use of RSS.
A good introduction to RSS can be found on the USA Today website.

Are You Ready For Some Football?
USATODAY.com - Fall TV offers 19-day football streak
Sometimes it seems football is on TV all the time. During an unprecedented stretch of 19 consecutive days this fall, it will be.
Football teams play only once a week, but television viewers are under no such restriction. From Oct. 28 to Nov. 15, at least one football game — major college or pro — will be televised each day. That includes Election Day.
The NFL will present its traditional Sunday-Monday fare, but college football will be on the air for 13 of the 19 days.

The Atlantic tropics have three tropical systems right now. I use the National Hurricane Center for updates on the systems. Hurricane Frances is currently 480 miles east of the northern Leeward Islands. Gaston has been downgraded to a tropical depression. Finally, tropical storm Hermine is located 325 miles SE of Cape Hatteras, NC and is moving NW. It is expected to turn gradually to the north. National Hurricane Center / Tropical Prediction Center

Precipitation Radar by Intellicast
There are a lot of weather sites that offer radar. The radar on the the Intellicast site is the one I like best. You have the ability to zoom in and loop. The Java loop allows you to set the speed of the loop and also the ability to step through the loop a frame at a time. Click here to see the radar: Providence, Rhode Island Radar by Intellicast
